Freelance Aviation Auditor

Type: Contract / Freelance

We are seeking an experienced freelance aviation auditor to conduct internal compliance and safety audits for Canadian aviation organizations, including CARs 702/703/704 air operators, Flight Training Units (FTUs), and Approved Maintenance Organizations (AMOs).

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct internal audits of operational, maintenance/maintenance control, training, and SMS systems (as applicable)
  • Assess compliance with Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs) and company policy
  • Review company manuals, procedures, technical records, and training documentation
  • Evaluate effectiveness of policy, including risk assessment and safety reporting processes
  • Identify regulatory gaps, procedural weaknesses, and opportunities for operational improvement
  • Prepare clear, professional audit reports with findings and corrective action recommendations
  • Provide follow-up support to verify implementation of corrective actions (as required)

Ideal Qualifications

  • Strong working knowledge of CARs, especially Subparts 702, 703, and 704, FTU requirements, and AMO regulations
  • Experience with Safety Management Systems (SMS) auditing and evaluation considered an asset
  • Background in commercial flight operations, flight training, or aircraft maintenance oversight
  • Previous auditing experience (internal, regulatory, or third-party) is required
  • Excellent report writing and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and maintain objectivity and confidentiality

Engagement Details

  • Contract / freelance basis
  • Primarily a work-from-home position — candidate location within Canada is flexible
  • Travel within Canada may be required to perform on-site evaluations
  • Approved travel expenses will be covered, including applicable per diems
  • Flexible scheduling based on project needs
  • The contractor must supply their own equipment and software required to perform the work, and have reliable internet access

Compensation

$30.00 per hour to start, with opportunity to increase up to $40.00 per hour based on demonstrated performance, quality of work, and delivery metrics (e.g., report quality, turnaround time, and client satisfaction)

Applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada (Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or authorized to work in Canada under applicable immigration legislation).
